As chairman of the the Overview and Scrutiny Committee, I have just written a report on ‘Community Development’. This means: ‘communities finding their own priorities and then meeting the needs themselves but with help where necessary’. A better term might be: ‘supporting community initiatives’. It is the way forward for many of the things the Council does and the first example in the report is the way renovating the village hall changed the social life and quality of life in Newton Valence.
